The exhibition «Experience»

Berlin

«A Person in History» lab is opening a new exhibition about digging into family archives, hidden stories, and the memories we inherit.

The twentieth century left behind a legacy of silence and an unspoken ban on asking questions about our family past. The participants in the project are united by the experience of overcoming this resistance—by the desire to understand the events of the past and, for many, to find themselves in the present.

During the art lab, some spoke with relatives about difficult subjects for the first time, some submitted their first archival request or took a closer look at unfamiliar faces in old photographs, and others invited their grandmothers to join the work on their family histories and ended up spending unexpectedly meaningful time together.

The exhibition presents the path each participant has taken—from the initial wish to learn something about their family story to the creation of an art object.

The exhibition will run from December 12 to 21.

Opening: 12 December at 18:00.

Opening hours: Fridays and weekends, 11:00–20:00

Adress: BAS CS Gallery, Soldiner Straße 103, 13359 Berlin.

Come see the works created in our 2025 lab and join seminars and curator-led tours that help you explore your own family history.
