The association includes historians, slavists, translators and all those interested in Russian, Ukrainian, Central Asian and Caucasian histories and cultures, who are concerned with the matters of memory and human rights. The association is focused on researching the history of Soviet state terror, totalitarianism, forms of state violence and human rights abuse in the Soviet and post-Soviet space, and also on protection of human rights in contemporary Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union. Memorial Italia hosts conferences, exhibitions, seminars and lectures, collects historical documentation, publishes research on history and literature, translates historical documents and collaborates with the academic community and colleagues from the Memorial network in various projects in Italy and internationally.
